Ernest Dowson - Vitae Summa Brevis
They are not long, the weeping and the laughter,      Love and desire and hate: I think they have no portion in us after           We pass the gate. They are not long, the days of wine and roses:      Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closes           Within a dream.

Charles Bukowski - Raw With Love
little dark girl with  kind eyes  when it comes time to  use the knife  I won’t flinch and  I won’t blame  you,  as I drive along the shore alone  as the palms wave,  the ugly heavy palms,  as the living does not arrive  as the dead do not leave,  I won’t blame you,  instead  I will remember the kisses  our lips raw with love  and how you gave me  everything you had  and how I ...

Lightly, my darling, on tiptoes and no luggage →
It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them… So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so...

Bob Dylan - All I Really Want to Do (Live, 1965) →
This song is blocked in the U.S., so here’s a link to Bob performing live at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 courtesy of China. You don’t have to speak Chinese to figure out how to listen: just press the play button. (Happy Thanksgiving everyone!)

My "other" blog →
I have a confession to make: I’ve been writing on another blog. Please don’t take this personally.  I’m not leaving this blog, no sir, it’s just that I like to keep my options open, and this blog happens to be for one of my best friends’ business he’s running, so naturally I want to help. Go on and check it out.  It’ll be worth your while.  I’ve...

Saturday Night Live - Regis Philbin Auditions →
Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to embed the video so I’ve gotta link to it, but it’s a fun skit that’s worth your while—although, if you’re a Zooey Deschanel fan (and I know there are some of you out there) be warned, they skewer her pretty well. All in all though it’s a good skit with well-done impressions, and overall it was a solid episode.

Arrested Development revived by US channel Netflix →
Good fucking morning! What a way to start the day, with beautiful news about a beautiful show. (And good for you Netflix, you found a way to win back the hearts of all the people you pissed off with your price hikes and that horribly awful idea to split Netflix into two services which you promptly canceled because it was such a terrible idea and everyone was so mad.  Then you do something like...

Excerpts from Ghostface Killah's track-by-track...
Ghostface Killah has a blog which you can check out by clicking this sentence. It’s unbelievably funny, and captures Ghostface’s voice remarkably well.  Obviously it’s going to sound something like Ghost, but when you read it you can practically hear him saying it, which is the mark of a great writer. Some of the funniest posts are the Annual Softest Rappers in the Game series,...

One of the best introductions ever
Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins.  My sin, my soul.  Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth.  Lo.  Lee.  Ta. -Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

While Things are Quiet →
Things are easier to control while things are quiet. Things are easier to plan far in advance.  Things break easier while they are still brittle.  Things are easier hid while they are still small. Prevent problems before they arise.  Take action before things get out of hand.  The tallest tree begins as a tiny sprout. The tallest building starts with one shovel of dirt. A journey of a thousand...

Q: Do you ever feel any pressure to keep things...
A: I feel that pressure in life. Actually I don’t feel like it’s a pressure, it’s sort of an obligation – not to entertain and be funny but to have a certain levity. I don’t mean in terms of just being jocular, I mean that there’s got to be a lightness in your way. There has to be a lightness; you have to be as light as you can be and not get weighed down and stuck in your emotion, stuck in your...
